Chips or Carrots … Good One!

Rolling Around Fatington

Well in the past couple of days I went from thinking hey, I can totally eat healthy all the time, to thinking oh, one trip to Qdoba or McDonald’s won’t hurt. The good days started Tuesday afternoon. I woke up fairly early and was having a pretty productive day so I decided to get my grocery shopping out of the way. I took a nice little trip to Kroger and gathered carrots, Boar’s Head meet and cheeses, and even organic juice-all healthy items! I did cave and buy some buffalo Wheat Thins and some white cheddar popcorn seasoning, but those aren’t too unhealthy right? I know we all have those weaknesses at the grocery, especially when we are hungry. Let me tell you, that trip to Kroger was so hard! I wanted to get Pizza Rolls and B-B-Q chips, my favorites! But I neglected the junk food aisles and settled for more healthy items. I left the grocery feeling pretty good about my food selection and thinking that I was putting the fast food world in my past.

No sooner had I thought that, about 10 hours later I found myself eating chips and queso at Qdoba. A night with friends laughing and chatting sometimes gets the better side of your taste buds, leaving the thoughts of carrots to subside while greasy food seems to take over. We took a nice little trip to Qdoba where I feasted on salted lime chips and warm, creamy, delicious cheese dip. I knew this food choice was bad…no…a very bad idea, but I just broke down. I told myself I would not have this mental break down again.

Haha, good joke, my brain seemed to yell at me as I got into my roommates car the following afternoon. My roommate brought up the idea of how delicious an Angus cheeseburger with bacon from McDonald’s sounded. My mouth started salivating at just the thought of the crispy bacon with melted cheese on a mouth watering burger. Plus topping it off with salty fries and an ice cold coke was very tantalizing. Of course I broke down and had to jump in the car with her to satisfy my greasy cravings. Hopefully I can be stronger in the future and stick to my carrots and wheat thins.

We all have food weaknesses and fast food is mine! Tell me what yours is?

Fatty Food Monster Strikes Again!

Adventures In Fatcastle…

You will never guess what happened today! Only seriously, you’ll never guess…okay I’ll tell you! I got to chalk up one point to myself against the Fatty Food Monster! Granted, the monster did earn 4 points today… At least I got one for myself! Let me just break down for you what exactly happened in our back and forth brawl.

I’m certain you will not be surprised when I say that I woke up this morning and, yes, made my way to the couch and began flipping through the brain garbage that is television. And next, even less surprising, I opened up the laptop and got my morning fix of Pinterest! How could I not? Feeling slightly disappointed in myself from my Subway breakdown the day before, I decided to have another go at finding something healthy to make for breakfast. When I came across a little treat they call “Cinnamon Sugar Toast,” I decided, why not attempt this? It requires 4 ingredients and is practically fool-proof! One problem…it was definitely not healthy. Forgetting about yesterday’s endeavor, I made my way to the kitchen to cook up this seemingly simple snack. NOT SO SIMPLE, I mean! I burned the toast, suffered from cinnamon overload, and went into sugar shock! It made for a nice nap though! Fatty Fail #1 for the day.

Then at lunch time, as if the monster hadn’t breathed its fatty fire enough, I opened the pantry, defeated from my cooking attempt to see my arch nemesis…RAMEN NOODLES! The last package sat there, laughing in my face as I tried to avoid eye contact. It was as if all of my willpower was dwindling before my eyes! I felt my hands begin to pick up the notoriously salty and calorie packed noodles before I could stop them! Within what seemed like 5 seconds, I was slurping down the chicken flavored goodness, clogging my arteries with each taste.  I had inhaled a saltier yet equally satisfying forbidden fruit as the double chocolate chip cookie heaven from the previous day. Fatty Fail #2.

The GRAND Finale! Yes folks, we have reached that time where I tell you about how I conquered that Fatty Food Monster and chalked up a point for the home team! Grabbing my running shoes, I quickly made my way to the treadmill without looking back at that package of Oreos crying out for me! 9 minutes and 45 seconds later I was out of breath and out of caffeine. Without a second thought I grabbed the last 90 calorie Coke out of the refrigerator and chugged it within literally 20 seconds. I know…Fatty Fail #3…only that’s not the end of it. My taste buds were craving something that would require me to get out into the real world … the real world of McDonalds. It was time for an ICE CREAM CONE! That sugary swirl stacked on top of a perfectly crunchy cone satisfied my fatty craving for a sweet treat after a nice mile jog. Fatty Fail #4. I think that’s a new record. Fatty Kelsey 1 … Fatty Food Monster 4. I guess I’ll just have to do better next time! (But probably not…)

Subway is THE Way

Rolling Around Fatington…

It’s not easy living the life of a mall employee in a world where you’re trying to eat healthy. The endless chains of greasy fried food, knock-off Asian cuisine, and rubbery waffle fries are not always that easy to turn down when you’ve been on the clock for 5 hours without food. The food court aromas seem to waft around you as soon as you step foot in the food court. Your head keeps spinning and spinning, the fatty, oily temptations seem to pull you in every direction. So, how is it possible to even steer clear of each and every one of these flashy fast-food chains?

The temptation of grabbing a greasy bite to eat started at a rockin’ 9am this morning. I had to be at work 10 which is an early start considering I’ve been sleeping in until at least 11am lately. Not only was my mind NOT used to risin’ and shinin’ this early, but my stomach wasn’t either. As I got into my car, I couldn’t help but think how great some Wendy’s breakfast burritos sounded with a nice Cokey on the side. However, remembering that I didn’t need to start off the day with a grease-filled stomach, I decided to pull off at a gas station and grab a nice granola bar and a V-8 splash. Granted, the drink still contains high amounts of sugar, but it was definitely better than my prior drink choice. Fatty Sister-1 Unhealthy food-0.

My next obstacle came at around 2:30pm when I had to decide what to eat for lunch. I didn’t have time to pack a nice sandwich and carrots with apples for lunch, so I had to settle for the dreaded food court. Looking around I spotted a nice little Subway chain that resembled semi-healthy food choices. I put my head down and acted like I was texty-texting on my phone so I could avoid the Chinese hot spots handing out “free samples of Bourbon Chicken”, taking note that this is my main weakness, give or take some General Tso’s. After several dodges of “free samples”, I reached the Subway destination. Finally, a Chicken Teriyaki sandwich on wheat bread with a water and some baked chips. After all, how healthy can a girl be?

Adventures in Fatcastle…

Today I am proud to say that I have conquered the demon that is junk food! Oh who are we kidding … no I didn’t! I was quite pleased with myself when I woke up this morning and of course went and sat on the couch, only instead of pondering the salty snacks that could envelop my taste buds, I had my sights set on one of the most addicting sites to date…Pinterest. Scrolling through the food category I saw countless meals that I’m sure would qualify as healthy to experiment with. Unfortunately though, my search for healthy yet delicious ideas was to no avail. I picked through the pins for an hour and a half, only to resort to a 90 calorie can of Coke. Fatty Fail #1 for today and I’m just getting warmed up.

Did I mention by this point it’s lunch time? Like 1:00 in the afternoon lunch time. A girl’s got to eat! Fortunately my darling mother was beckoning for a little pick me up while she was at work. Naturally I think “Yes! Free fast food!” I drove as quickly as that speed limit would take me to get the order and go. Surprising though, was the location where I would find my fat-deprived body. Next thing I know, I’m at Subway! You can imagine my victory dance as I sprinted through the door to take in a whole new world of healthy. “A sandwich!” I thought to myself. What could be healthier than a sandwich, freshly made in front of you, while YOU get to select the details! Well, I’m giving myself points for getting a 6-inch roast beef & provolone on Italian Herbs and Cheese, because at least it didn’t have the grease content of a McDonald’s hamburger; I even passed on the extra salt! And then, like it was meant to be, the love of my life appeared before me as I approached the cash register.

What was it that was making my mouth water simply by ogling the oh-so-close piece of heaven? Nothing less of course, than fresh, gooey double chocolate chip cookies; how could I resist!? That’s right, I couldn’t. I counteracted what I thought was an extremely good deed for myself by purchasing my weakness; only, it doesn’t end there. Not only did I purchase this cookie, intending to eat it AFTER my somewhat healthy lunch, I found it just sitting there on my plate staring into my soul, begging me to take a bite. You can only guess what comes next. Beginning with the crunchy outer rim, I made my way to the soft, melt-in-your-mouth center. One bite into my health accomplishment and I threw it all away for the forbidden fruit that was oh so sweet. Did I forget to mention that I washed it all down with a large Coke from Wendy’s? Fatty Fail #2. I can’t even imagine what other Fatty Fails I’m going to encounter in the next 3 hours, but I’d rather stop now to save myself the humiliation. Go eat those sandwiches girls and don’t fall for the wily temptress that is unhealthy but extremely happy food…or do.

On A Serious Note…

I’ve received some comments about our blog, claiming it to be slightly offensive to several people. I would just like to let everyone know that this blog was created with the intentions of being humorous and addressing the issue that everyone has with eating unhealthy food. When we say “Fatty” we are not literally referring to a body type or trying to say that we or anyone else are “fat”. We are using this word to represent things that are unhealthy; fatty foods for example. It seemed less exciting and comical to call our blog “Unhealthy Sisters”. We are simply using it as a fun meaning for unhealthy and do not mean it in a derogatory way nor do we want to offend anyone. Please continue to read our blog as a humorous look into the realistic lives of two unhealthy sisters. Any other comments or questions you may have can be posted in the comments section.

Take One

This morning my sister Katy and I woke up at an early hour of 11:00 a.m. We began with our usual “What’s up fatty” comments and proceeded to the couch to lay like sloths and watch countless hours of television. What more could two fatty sisters want? Oh of course! A healthy and wholesome breakfast! Scavenging through the kitchen, we each could find nothing to our liking…meaning there was nothing but wheat bread and dairy products. Naturally, our eyes found the package of Chunky Chocolate Chip cookies. Cradling the package like a newborn baby, I walked it back to the couch where I began to eat not one, but four cookies in a matter of 4 minutes. New PR! My fatty sister of course joined in soon after my endeavor for chocolatey goodness. Once we had each eaten a satisfactory amount of cookies, we began thinking out loud to one another. “Gosh sist, we’re fat!” This brilliant statement led us to create what you are now feasting your eyes upon! The Fatty Sisters blog! We’re here to share with you how we make it day-to-day loving the food and hating our bodies, all the while trying to make it better! It’s a constant struggle everyday between our love for unhealthy treats and not wanting to be fat. We’re here to share our encounters with junk food, body image, and most importantly those wonderful cokey’s. Tell us what you like and what you want to see, and share with us your encounters with fatty foods and how me and my fatty sister can help you!
